About Me and this Website

I have been collecting and painting military miniatures since I was a teenager - almost 60 years now.  Unless stated otherwise, all of the figures on the site are ones I painted, which I do with oil paints. Many were painted decades ago.  I have tried to do some of the captions in German for my friends in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

​You will find mostly European themed figures - Russia, Germany and other countries, from antiquity to 1918.  You will see primarily, but not exclusively, "flat figures" (German: "Zinnfiguren").  For many years the preponderance of my collection was Napoleonic Russia and the German states like Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and the Confederation of the Rhine.  However you will also find a major portion of the site on the Middle Ages as well as antiquity.

As a collector of Zinnfiguren, luckily I lived and worked in Europe, mostly Germany, for many years and therefore had the opportunity not only to have easy access to Zinnfiguren, but the chance to be a member of KLIO's Kurpfalz (Phillipsburg), Stuttgart and Berlin groups and to meet so many wonderful fellow collectors there and at many Kulmbach events.

Some of those collectors have graciously allowed me to display their painted figures on this site.  My thanks to them for that.

I have also been a member of the National Capital Model Soldier Society - NCMSS (formerly National Capital Military Collectors - NCMC) in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area since 1966!  You'll find "NCMSS" mentioned a number of times in the site.

Also included in the site are the covers of some books that I translated for Zeughaus Verlag (Arsenal Publishing), Berlin, as well as ones I published with the KLIO Baden-Württemberg club or self-published.  I think the works can be useful resources for figure collectors.

Ich sammele und bemale historische vollplastische Figuren und flache Zinnfiguren seit meiner Jugend – das sind  fast 60 Jahre.  Wenn nicht anders angegeben, sind alle Figuren in dieser Webseite von mir mit Ölfarben bemalt.  Viele der Figuren wurden schon vor Jahrzehnten bemalt und ich hoffe, dass sich mein Malstil im Laufe der Jahre weiter entwickelt hat.  Für die wenigen Deutschsprachigen, die Englisch nicht gut lesen können, habe ich versucht, einige Bildunterschriften auch auf Deutsch anzugeben.

Die meisten Figuren haben europäische Themen – Russland, Deutschland und andere Länder - von der Antike bis zum Jahre 1918.  Vor allem handelt es sich um flache Zinnfiguren.  Während der ganzen Jahre lag der Schwerpunkt meiner Sammlung auf Russland und den deutschen Ländern wie Preußen, Bayern und Rheinbund der Zeit Napoleons.  Es ist aber auch ein großer Teil der Webseite dem Mittelalter gewidmet sowie der Antike.

Als Zinnfigurensammler habe ich glücklicherweise die Gelegenheit gehabt, viele Jahren in Europa, vor allem in Deutschland, zu wohnen und zu arbeiten.  Deswegen hatte ich nicht nur leichten Zugang zu Zinnfiguren.  Ich hatte auch die Gelegenheit, KLIO Mitglied im Stammtisch Kurpfalz und in den Landesgruppen Baden-Württemberg und Berlin zu sein.  Dort und an den Kulmbacher Börsen lernte ich viele wunderbare Sammler kennen, die auch zu meinen Freunden wurden.
 
Einige dieser Sammler haben mir großzügig erlaubt, ihre bemalten Figuren in dieser Webseite zu präsentieren.  Ich bedanke mich dafür.
 
Ich bin auch seit 1966 Mitglied des Sammlervereins der Washingtoner Region, der National Capital Model Soldier Society - NCMSS (ehemalig National Capital Military Collectors – NCMC - genannt).  Ihr werdet „NCMSS“ mehrmals auf der Webseite sehen.

Auf dieser Webseite sind auch die Umschläge einiger Bücher vorgestellt, die ich für den Zeughaus Verlag, Berlin, übersetzt habe, sowie eines Sonderhefts, das ich mit der KLIO-Landesgruppe Baden-Württemberg oder selbst herausgebracht habe.  Diese Werke können als Vorlagen für Figurensammler nützlich sein.
